STARSHIP TROOPERS: Battle of Klendathu!!!!!

This Illustration is a remake of the cover to Robert Heinlein’s “Starship Troopers”. Before I had ever heard of Robert Heinlein, I saw the film based on the Hugo award winning novel and thought it was just a terrible big budget rip off of a cancelled TV show called "Space above and Beyond”. So you can imagine my surprise when I discovered that the movie was based on Heinlein's book and that the book inspired a whole sub genre in science fiction. GIANT MECHA! I was never fond of any of the covers done for this novel so thought I'd take a shot.
This cover illustration offered another fun attempt at designing
a large robot. Around 10 days start to finish. Crits

Machine Flesh: Human Touch (My really late entry)

My really, reeeeaally late machineflesh entry from the cgtalk challenge a few years ago. Due to work and stuff I never took it past the sketch stage until last month.

The original story from the challenge is:
Toren's wife DiNaala, an experienced waste management controller, was accidently exposed to multiple types of radiogenic waste during an explosion aboard her vessel. She suffered irreparable damage to over 90 percent of her body. Barely alive, DiNaala was rescued from the damaged freighter and had most of the more highly contaminated portions of her body amputated. Her husband pleaded with the local Waste Control Union to allocate funds toward rebuilding DiNaala's body with a experimental new robotic procedure. The Union Committee scoffed at the idea and deemed Toren's wife's accident an occupational hazard. Fearing he would soon lose her forever, Toren assembled what funds he could raise so that he and DiNaala could travel to the medical station in high orbit above their planet for the operation to begin.

This scene depicts the moment when the pressure sensors of her upper torso became active so that DiNaala could once again experience human touch.

I'll be posting the line drawing and details too if this makes it to the forum gallery

Comments are most welcome. Hope ya like.

Happy Holidays!

Wraparound cover sample for Meisha Merlin Publishing. Special thanks to the company art director who posed as reference for the securuty guard.
"A containment breach in the xenobiology lab sets free the energy based aliens that were being used to power the orbital space station"
I originally had a few dead scientists on the ground in the sketch but took them out. My thought was that energy based aliens would phase through human tissue, not kill the person.
